Early Sunday morning, Hickory Police received multiple 911 calls about gunfire in the 800 block of 5th Ave SW, including a caller that stated that their home had been shot into and another saying a white male suspect was walking in the area with a gun in his hand. Officers located the suspect, who then fled. While officers were pursuing, he turned and pulled a handgun from his waistband.
The officers shot the suspect. EMS responded and declared the subject deceased. The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Timothy Craig Setzer Jr. The State Bureau of Investigation will conduct an independent investigation of the shooting. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
