Early Monday morning, Salem Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 3335 Port Street in Morganton. Firefighters arrived to a brick home with heavy smoke visible and one person still inside.
Firefighters made entry and pulled the victim from the structure. 43-year-old Bon Alexander Stroupe was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other injuries.
Four Burke County fire departments responded, along with Burke County EMS. The Burke County Fire Marshal’s Office, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office and the SBI are investigating the fire.
