2022 Record Year for Tourism Spending

North Carolina set a record for visitor spending in 2022, according to data recently released by the North Carolina Department of Commerce. North Carolina reached a record $33.3 billion in visitor spending, with nearly half of counties seeing double digit increases.

Catawba County led the region with $331.4 million, up 13.5 percent from 2021, followed by Burke County’s $133.7 million, up 10 percent from 2021. Caldwell County visitor spending was up 8 percent from 2021 with a total of $68.3 million and Alexander County had $33.9 million in visitor spending, which was down from 2021. Altogether, tourism spending for the four counties totaled more than $567.5 million and accounts for nearly 4,000 local jobs.
