UPDATE: On August 24, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office received an additional report involving Aaron Mirstsching. After further investigation, warrants were issued on Mirtsching for 10 counts of indecent liberties with a minor. Mirtsching was arrested and issued a $50,000 secured bond with a court date of August 25. The investigation is ongoing.
A former teacher and youth pastor has been arrested by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office on three felony counts of exploitation of a minor after receiving a cyber-tip from Internet Crimes Against Children. 41-year-old Aaron Mirtsching of 134 Oakdale Drive, Morganton, was charged Tuesday and issued a $20,000 bond.
His first court appearance is scheduled for today, Aug. 24. Mirtsching was let go from his position at Thrive Church in Morganton following the arrest and church leaders are cooperating with the investigation, according to Facebook posts by the church. Mirtsching also served as a kindergarten teacher as recently as 2022 at New Dimensions Charter School, according to the school’s Facebook page.
