Lenoir-Rhyne Athletics will host its annual 828 Day celebration from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 26 at Moretz Stadium. The free event will feature live music, local food trucks, bounce houses, giveaways, prizes and opportunities to play games and visit with Lenoir-Rhyne student-athletes. The event is family friendly and will include back-to-school giveaways for kids.
The Caldwell Heritage Museum will host a presentation at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 26 by author Bob Plott. He will share stories from his books, Colorful Characters of the Great Smoky Mountains and Smoky Mountain Railways. Learn about Cherokee leaders such as Yonaguska and Dragging Canoe, how the railroad in western North Carolina came to be and those who built the rail lines. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. The museum is located at 112 Vaiden Street, Lenoir.
The Hickory Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism Department will host its annual Back to School Bash on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Taft Broome Park. The free community event will offer food and activities for families, including games, face painting, and music by DJ Rodney. A vendor fair will showcase local resources, businesses, and organizations. Free haircuts will be provided by Plush Kutz Barber College. There will also be raffles for bicycles and giveaways of backpacks with school supplies to get children ready for the upcoming school year. Children must be present to receive a backpack, and there is a limit of one backpack per child.
