According to the Morganton News Herald, a pedestrian was hit and killed on Interstate 40 in Burke County early Thursday morning. The accident took place at I-40 near Mile Marker 101 when a person walked out in front of a tractor trailer that was traveling eastbound. The person was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not been released.
