Unemployment rates in July had mixed results with increases in 27 counties, no change in 34 counties and decreases in 39 counties. Alexander and Burke had slight decreases in unemployment from June to July, while Caldwell and Catawba held steady with no change from June to July. All four counties remain in the state’s Top 50 for employment rate with Alexander leading the way for July at 3.1 percent, which ranks as the state’s 10th lowest unemployment rate out of 100 counties. The July results do not include the recent layoffs at Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams.
