A multi-county chase turned into a manhunt in Burke County late Tuesday night and into the early hours of Wednesday morning. A man accused of shooting a postal worker and stealing her vehicle in Madison County led law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit all the way to Burke County, where the man was apprehended around 5 a.m. Wednesday morning.
During the chase, officers slowed the suspect with stop sticks before he exited I-40 at Burkemont Avenue and traveled to Williams Road. The suspect drove into a field where he fled on foot. Law enforcement created a containment perimeter around the area. NC Highway Patrol troopers spotted the suspect at the J. Iverson Riddle Center before he ran across I-40 toward Government Drive where law enforcement took him into custody near the Burke County Jail.
