The Burke County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest in a vehicle theft investigation last week. After receiving reports of a vehicle stolen on Antioch Road in Morganton Thursday, investigators located the vehicle on U.S. 70 in Hildebran being driven by 45-year-old Jay Dee Cooke III of Marion.
Cooke was arrested and charged with felony counts of larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and extortion, as well as two counts of misdemeanor larceny. Cooke was issued a $21,000 secured bond and given a court date of Sept. 11 in Burke County District Court.
