A Hickory woman was killed Friday afternoon in a crash on U.S. 64 in Alexander County near Church Road. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a car traveling west on U.S. 64, driven by 76-year-old Barbara Ruppard Causey, crossed the centerline and collided with an eastbound SUV. Causey died at the scene. The driver of the SUV was not injured but a child in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
