Higher Ed News: App State’s Record Enrollment, CCC&TI Award


Appalachian State University has announced a record enrollment for the Fall Semester with 21,253 students. It’s the largest enrollment in the school’s 124-year history and includes the largest first-year and online student populations to date. Giving the final enrollment number a boost is the new Hickory campus, which opened Aug. 21 and is serving 363 students in the former Corning building.
In other higher education news – Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute recently awarded its 2023 Donald W. Lackey Excellence in Teaching Award for 2023 to Associate in Fine Arts – Visual Arts program director and instructor Thomas Thielemann.

At an employee gathering on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at the J.E. Broyhill Civic Center, Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute President Dr. Mark Poarch (left) presented the 2023 Donald W. Lackey Excellence in Teaching Award to Associate in Fine Arts – Visual Arts Program Director and Instructor Thomas Thielemann. The annual award honors a faculty member who characterizes personal dedication, concern for student welfare and academic excellence. Congratulations to this year’s recipient, Mr. Thomas Thielemann.
