Hickory Man Sentenced in Fentanyl Death

A Hickory man was sentenced in Catawba County Superior Court this week to six to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to death by distribution. According to the District Attorney’s Office, 35-year-old Manuel Alejandro Acevedo admitted to Catawba County Sheriff’s investigators that he sold $40 worth of fentanyl to a 38-year-old female victim who was found deceased by a family member on February 6, 2022. The autopsy report for the victim showed that she died of fentanyl toxicity. The state’s death by distribution law went into effect in 2019 to hold drug dealers accountable for criminal conduct that results in death.
