Free Event Friday: This Weekend’s Events

The 42nd Hiddenite Celebration of the Arts will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23 on Hiddenite Church Road. The event features fine arts and handmade products, living history demonstrations by skilled craftspeople, four live performance stages with music, dance, and storytelling, an interactive children’s area and more. The Center’s Historic James Paul Lucas Mansion museum, art gallery, permanent collections, and the Alexander County Visitor Center will be open for visitors throughout the day. All other Lucas Mansion exhibits will be free and open to the public.
Kids of all ages are invited for a fun, day of play at Kiwanis Park in Hickory – Saturday, Sept. 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be crafts, games, face painting, vendors, and more.
The City of Hickory’s Sails Original Music Series in Downtown Hickory Friday night will have free live original music under The Sails on the Square. Grammy-nominated country artist Rissi Palmer will perform at 7 p.m. Food and beverages will be available nearby from local vendors in the Hickory Downtown Social District.
And finally – celebrate 50 years of Hudson Parks and Recreation with an all-day event Saturday, Sept. 23 at Redwood Park. The day starts with a Boccee Ball tournament from 8am to 12pm, followed by food trucks, inflatables and more from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., and a free screening of “Little Giants” at 8 p.m.
