AAA is predicting a record-setting amount of North Carolinians to travel 50 miles or more during the year-end holiday season.
From December 23rd to January 1st, AAA says an estimated 3.5 million people in North Carolina will be traveling this year to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s.
AAA Carolinas expects nearly 80,000 more North Carolina travelers this year, besting the record year of 2019 by about 2.3%.
This year of the 3.5 million expected to travel, 3 million will be taking to the roadways, while 191,902 are expected to fly.
Nationally, airports are expected to be busier than ever, with  7.5 million travelers. That’s 336,000 more than last year.
AAA, says Saturday, December 23rd, Thursday, December 28th, and Saturday, December 30th will be the busiest days on the road. The best time to hit the road is before lunchtime or after 7 p.m.
