The Burke County Sheriff’s Office reports that One person is dead following a shooting north of Morganton.
Deputies responded to a report of a shooting on Pax Hill Road on Sunday at approximately 4:00pm.
When deputies arrived they found a male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was identified as 57 year old Gary David Ritch.
Ritch was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Sheriff’s Department officials are quote as saying “There were bail bonding agents on the scene at the time of the shooting.” It has not been made clear at the time of this report if one of the bonding agents were involved in the shooting.
Burke County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident along with the North Carolina Department of Insurance, who is the governing regulatory agency for bail bonding agents.
