1 Person is Dead and and 2 were seriously injured yesterday in what is suspected to be, but yet unconfirmed, tornado that touched down in the Clairmont area of Catawba County. The event happened at approximately 12:30 pm Tuesday at a mobile home park on Cindi Lane and Evening Drive off Old Catawba Road. Multiple homes were damaged or destroyed and residences were forced to take shelter with no prior warnings or notifications. Upon arrival deputies and first responders conducted a house to house search for victims. No other injuries have been reported at this time. All three victims were in the same residence when the weather event occurred. The National Weather Service is conducting an evaluation to determine how to categorize the event, though the damage and debris field appear to be consistent with a tornado.
