Tuesday’s Storm Recap

Here is a recap of Tuesday’s severe weather event.

According to the National Weather Service Between 2.74 and 4.97 inches of rain fell at reporting locations across the Catawba Valley region between 12:00 am and 11:00pm Tuesday the 9th, resulting in area wide flooding, property damages and power outages.  

Duke Energy and Blue Ridge Energy report that all power has been restored with the exception of the Catawba County, Clairmont locations where the suspected tornado touched down at approximately 12:30 pm on Tuesday.

The deceased victim of the weather event  has been identified as 39 year old  Dustin Ray Weaver of Clairmont. According to a Catawba County press release, a total of four victims were taken to an area hospital as a result of their injuries. Three were treated and released, one remains hospitalized. The National Weather Service has not yet classified the weather event.

Clean up efforts remain ongoing in all four Catawba Valley region counties, and it’s recommended that you continue to follow your city and county websites and social media sites for updated information.
