Valdese residents pack room to analyze town’s strengths, weaknesses

It was a packed Waldensian room at the Old Rock School Wednesday night as people gave their input on Valdese, what it lacks and what it does well.
The Western Piedmont Council of Governments held the session to garner feedback from the public about the town’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, commonly known as a SWOT analysis. It will hold another session at the same place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Morganton News Herald Valdese residents place color stickers on the items they deem most important for the town during a public input session Wednesday night at the Old Rock School. The town contracted with Western Piedmont Council of Governments to conduct a SWOT analysis.
The council approved a contract with WPCOG for the analysis.
After a short presentation, Alison Adams, director of community and regional planning for WPCOG, split the crowd off into groups, whose members gave their input on the town’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
WPCOG staff members were assigned to each group to write down a list of each SWOT. At the end, each group member put colored stickers next to the top four items they believe are most important.
