Ashe County Sheriff’s office has released a statement regarding the January 22nd arrest of a Burke County man.
Ashe County Sheriff B. Phil Howell announced the apprehension and arrest of 43-year-old Robert Lee Robinson Jr. from Rutherford College, NC. Robinson has been taken into custody on an outstanding warrant and is now facing two felony counts of trafficking in methamphetamine.
The arrest took place on January 22 when Sheriff Deputy Cody Call was conducting routine traffic stops along NC HWY 88 W in Creston. Robinson’s vehicle was stopped, and upon verification with the Ashe County 911 Dispatch, it was confirmed that Robinson had an outstanding warrant for larceny from Caldwell County. During a pat-down search, deputies discovered a sock containing a significant quantity of a crystalline substance, subsequently identified as methamphetamine. To determine the exact composition and purity, the substance will be sent to the NCSBI lab for further testing.
Law enforcement officials successfully seized approximately 114 grams of methamphetamine, equivalent to approximately a quarter of a pound. Robinson was taken into custody without any further incident and was subsequently transported to the Ashe County Detention Center.
Currently, Robinson is being held at the Ashe County Detention Center under a $250,000 secure bond. The charges against him include the outstanding warrant for larceny from Caldwell County and two counts of felony trafficking in methamphetamine.
