GYM AT MULBERRY RECREATION CENTER CLOSED FOR REPAIRS

The gym at Mulberry Recreation Center will be closed until further notice due to damage to the gym floor. The operating hours at Mulberry will also change until the floor is repaired.

Staff discovered the damage to the gym floor on Feb. 3, 2024. About 720 square feet of the gym floor had buckled and risen up off the foundation. At the moment, there is a large hump in the floor in the back left of the gym.
The City is requesting cost estimates from several contractors to repair the damaged section and to possibly replace the entire floor.
Since the gym is closed, staff are temporarily changing the hours at Mulberry Recreation Center. Mulberry Rec will be open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm for evening programs in the activity rooms. The center will be closed on Saturday, but available for rentals.
Parks & Recreation Director Phil Harper said people can still play pickleball indoors at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, and the MLK Jr. Center gym will be open for free play.
“Thankfully, we have two great recreation centers in Lenoir. The Martin Luther King Jr. Center has a fantastic gym that people can use while the Mulberry gym is closed,” Director Harper said. “Also we’re heading into spring, so it will be warm enough for people to use the outdoor courts and facilities at Mulberry.”
The Martin Luther King Jr. Center is located at 313 Greenhaven Dr. The center is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Click the following link for more information about the center, Martin Luther King Jr. Center.
