Pedestrian Identified in Fatality

In reference to the fatal collision in Burke County on Sunday, March 10th, the NC State Highway Patrol has identified the pedestrian.  The NC State Highway Patrol wishes to express its appreciation to the local media outlets for their assistance.

  Hildebran – On Sunday, March 10, at approximately midnight, the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Burke County on George Hildebran School Road near Wilkies Grove Church Road.  A Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling east on George Hildebran Roan and struck a pedestrian walking eastbound in the roadway.  The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and the roadway was not lighted.

 The pedestrian, Chang Ching Yang, 31, of Hickory, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Grand Cherokee, William Steven Wright, 34, of Connelly Springs, was not injured.

The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed to be contributing factors in the collision.  During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately three hours. No charges will be filed in this case against the driver.
