On Sunday, March 18, 2024, Morganton Department of Public Safety officers received a 911 call in regards to a Breaking and Entering in progress. The caller reported her ex-boyfriend was attempting to gain entry to her home with the use of what she believed to be power tools. Officers arrived on scene and identified the suspect’s vehicle parked in the area. After attempting to hide in the rear passenger area of the truck Ramiro Marcelo Cruz, 25 of Charlotte, was taken into custody. Cruz was charged with Attempted 1st Degree Burglary and 2nd Degree Trespass. Cruz is being held at the Burke County Detention Facility under no bond.
