Officers with the Morganton Department of Public Safety responded to a collision in the area of Sanford Drive on March 21st. Officers were advised that one of the vehicles involved in the incident had collided with the caller multiple times. Officers were able to locate both of the vehicles just outside the city limits of Morganton. After further investigation, damage to both vehicles was observed, and subsequently Loland Smith, 40 of Morganton, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Smith received a $10,000 secured bond. His first court appearance will be April 26th.
