HWY 321 Blowing Rock Remains Closed

Hwy 321 South of Blowing Rock remains closed due to a rock slide that occurred Thursday evening in a section between the Green Park Inn and Blackberry Road. Initially it was predicted that the highway would reopen over the weekend, but following an assessment by NCDOT engineers, more loose rocks and debris must be cleared before the road can be safely opened. NCDOT officials have indicated that it may be Tuesday or Wednesday before the highway is reopened. As an alternative route, passenger vehicles only can take Blackberry Road just south of the slide, Blackberry Road comes out on Aho Road between Blowing Rock and Boone. Depending on traffic, this will add an additional 20 to 30 minutes to the normal travel time. This closure comes as a section of Hwy 105,another of the main corridors into Boone, was closed as a result of road crews efforts to stabilize slopes adjacent to the roadway and clear materials from the road after a blasting operation last week.
