Hwy 321 South of Blowing Rock Remains Closed

Highway 321 south of Blowing Rock remains closed after more than a week following it’s closure on Thursday the 11th due to a rock slide. Crews continue to remove large rocks and  other debris in an effort to stabilize the mountainside above the road.

Many questions still remain about the overall stability of the mountain slope and the house that is perched at the top of the area where the slide occurred. No information has been released regarding the status of the structure.

Officials with the town of Blowing Rock report that the road closure has had an economic impact resulting in an estimated 50% reduction in the town’s revenue.

NCDOT expects the road to be back open by Sunday evening. Passenger vehicles will continue to be able utilize Blackberry Road to detour around the affected  area.
