The Alexander County Sheriff’s office has released the name of the individual killed in the officer involved shooting Sunday night. The deceased has been identified as Jason Melvin Williams, 39 of Taylorsville. Williams, who had five orders for arrest for failure to appear for various crimes, ran from the home on Dusty Road and Taylorsville when deputies arrived at just before 10:00 p.m. It’s reported that when caught, Williams fought with officers and produced a handgun and fired at deputies. Deputies return fire killing Williams. There was no report of deputies being injured during the incident. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting and the deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave.
