HNI Workplace Furnishings announced this week that it would be closing its Hickory manufacturing facility in 2025.
The Iowa-based company is expected to consolidate production at its other North American facilities. HNI has furniture manufacturing facilities in Iowa, Georgia, New York and Indiana.
Layoffs for the 221 employees is set to begin on October 13th, with incentive offers to employees who stay until the closure in April of 2025
Through an acquisition in 2008, HNI acquired Hickory Business Furniture, which included the manufacturing facility and the brand headquarters. Hickory Business Furniture will continue to be headquartered in Hickory with approximately 25 employees remaining.
