The Caldwell Arts Council Announce Purchase of New Location

The Caldwell Arts Council Board of Directors and staff are thrilled to announce the
purchase of 126 Mulberry Street NW in downtown Lenoir as our new home! Most
remember the historic, character filled building as the former home of Shaw
Furniture, but it began life in the early 1900’s as the Henkel Opera House. This
ample space will provide Caldwell Arts with room to grow and meet the changing
needs of our artistic communities and Caldwell County residents over the next 50+
years!
Soon, we will launch a Capital Campaign to raise crucial funds needed for
renovations that will be completed in stages. The first priority will be the main and
mezzanine levels to complete the new Caldwell Arts retail shop, administrative
offices, ADA restrooms, gallery space, catering kitchen, and more. During the
second phase, the basement level will be remodeled to include a classroom, various
rental spaces, and ADA restrooms. The final stage will involve a complete
restoration of the top floor performance hall with lighting, sound, and audio visual
equipment; seating for various types of functions; and an elevator that will serve all
three floors.
As we navigate this long-term project, we will share information on the Caldwell Arts
Council’s Capital Campaign and photos of our progress on our website and on
social media.
Until the main floor of the Opera House is renovated, staff will continue working
off-site. If you have questions, concerns, or need assistance, email us or call
828-754-2486.
