David Faherty with WSOC reports that the FedEx facility in Conover has announced planned layoffs impacting dozens of employees.
A letter issued by FedEx states that “Federal Express Corporation is permanently closing its Hickory A facility located at 1228 Commerce Street Conover, NC effective September 30th 2024”. The letter goes on to state that “this will result in the layoff of approximately 66 couriers and 3 managers. The affected employees at this location are not part of a union and no bumping rights exist”.
Some employees who are currently working at the Conover location will remain employed by a federal express after September 3rd, but will work at other locations after that date. Employees whose positions are eliminated will be provided options to consider including relocation, severance, or leave of absence during which they may pursue other positions within the company.
