ɴᴇᴡᴛᴏɴ, ɴ.ᴄ. – On Thursday, 06/27/2024, at 5:01 p.m. deputies with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a person shot at a residence in the 5000 block of Hope Rd. When deputies arrived, they discovered Larry Ray Whisnant (31) deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Whisnant’s next of kin have been notified.
Trevor Kiernan O’Mara (30), a Vale resident, has been arrested and charged with murder in Whisnant’s death. Sheriff’s investigators have learned that an apparent altercation between Whisnant and O’Mara led to Whisnant’s death.
O’Mara was taken to the Catawba County Detention Center held with no bond. His first appearance was on 06/28/2024 in Catawba County District Court.
