NC lawmakers passes nearly $68M in funding for childcare centers, authorize teacher pay raises

The Raleigh News & Observer report that both North Carolina legislative chambers agreed to pass standalone bills that allocate 67.5 million dollars in funding for childcare centers through the end of the year, as well as formally authorized pay raises for teachers and other school employees. The pay raises were initially approved in last year’s 2-year budget, but required additional language to take effect. The raises range from 3.6% to 10.8% over 2 years based on experience. The House approved both of these bills on Wednesday, and the Senate approved the bills on Thursday before sending them to the Governor. If Cooper signs them into law they will take effect just in time for the new physical year beginning July 1st.
