Conover Man Arrested Following Stand Off

Catawba County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested Ian Maurice McMahon, 30 of Conover, and charged him with two counts of possession of a firearm by felon felony, probation violation, possession of methamphetamine ,and possession of drug paraphernalia, following a standoff at McMahon’s home on Guy Baker Road.

It happened on Friday morning at approximately 5:00 a.m. when Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and US Marshal’s Deputies went to serve a warrant at McMahon’s home. McNahon was at the residence along with a woman, but both refused to exit. The Sheriff’s Office deployed the Special Tactics and Response Team. After more than three hours, the woman exited the dwelling. McMahon surrendered shortly after. The woman was released once McMahon was in custody.

One of the warrants concerned McMahon’s social media postings, including one where he reportedly stated “people in charge need to be forcibly replaced therefore it’s probably not gonna be accomplished without some bloodshed.”

McMahon was placed in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $30,000 bond. A court appearance is scheduled Monday July 15th.
