Newton Police have arrested a man accused of firing shots at officers during an incident that occurred on July 8th. Police took Keenan Jemez Leach into custody on Wednesday following his release from Atrium Health Medical Center in Charlotte. Leach was charged with four counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill, and four counts of felony assault on the law enforcement officer with a firearm. The charges stem from the incident that took place on July 8th at the Catawba Pines Apartments in Newton. While officers were attempting to disarm a male suspect, Leach fired several shots at the officers but was wounded in the return fire.
Leach was taken to the Catawba County Detention Facility and placed under a $750,000 secured bond.
