The Center for Earthquake Research and Information and the USGS National Earthquake Information Center report that on Sunday morning (July 21st) at approximately 8:30 a.m. an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.2 was registered in the Buffalo Cove area of Caldwell County .This is the second earthquake registered in Western North Carolina this month with the magnitude of 1.5 or higher. The first being in Ashe County back on July 13th, also registering at 2.2 in magnitude.
