The 50th Annual Harambee Arts Festival will be Saturday Aug. 3 through Friday, Aug. 9, 2024, at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center. Come enjoy a different activity each day of the festival. All events are free!
As part of the 50th anniversary, organizers will reveal a new mural at the MLK Jr. Center. The mural will honor 50 years of the festival as well as local Black leaders in Lenoir. “Harambee” is a Swahili word that means “all pull together.”
Harambee starts at 11:00 am Saturday, Aug. 3, with a Family Fun Day. There will be a sketch artist, face painters, balloon lady, trampoline, train ride, rock climbing, Hype-Nation Foam Cannon, water slide, food and craft vendors, and the Ministerial Alliance Book Bag Giveaway. Family Fun Day ends at 4:00 pm.
On Sunday, Aug. 4, there will be a Gospel Singing starting at 4:00 pm. Roger and Kyesha Horton, the Nu Faithfulaires Carolinas, and Chosen will perform. The concert will be in the Samuel T. Sturgis Gymnatorium.
The J.H. Jones All-Star Basketball Games will be Monday, Aug. 5, followed by a block party for everyone hosted by Perk’s Entertainment. The block party starts at 7:00 pm.
The Senior Citizens Banquet will be Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 6:00 pm.
Game Night will be Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 6:00 pm. The games will include Spades, Bid Whist, Bingo, and Dominoes.
The Recognition Banquet will be at 6:00 pm Thursday, Aug. 8.
The festival will close out with an evening of music starting at 6:00 pm, Friday, Aug. 9.
