The Town of Taylorsville is the latest municipality in the Catawba Valley/Uniform to allocate funding to oppose the Charlotte Interbasin Transfer Request. Opposition comes in the form of a plan by the Western Piedmont Council of Governments that includes, Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, and McDowell counties. Council member Kim Brown noted in last week’s council meeting that each fee requested to be contributed for engineering studies and attorney fees are calculated based on the number of citizens within each municipality. Taylorsville’s contribution to the opposition plan would be $5,207.33 over the next 2 years, The council voted unanimously to contribute to the Western Piedmont Council of Governments plan over concerns that the water transfer could have an impact on Taylorsville’s own water supply.
