Morganton Public Safety will be conducting a speed enforcement campaign on Burkemont Avenue, over the next week (8/20-8/27), in an effort to reduce the number of vehicle crashes.
Over the past two years the number of vehicle crashes have increased.
In 2022 there were 170 wrecks with 23 having personal injury.
In 2023 there were 193 wrecks with 18 having personal injury
So far in 2024, there have been 118 wrecks. 9 personal injury wrecks with 2 wrecks having persons trapped in the vehicle.
**The speed limit on Burkemont Avenue is 35MPH**
“Our goal is to reduce the number of speed related wrecks. We are notifying the motoring public because our goal is to (NOT) write citations, rather to SLOW people down on this stretch of road”.
