Charges changed to murder in Monday assault case.

On September 2nd, 2024, at around 1:02 am, Alexander County 911 communications center received a call of an assault at Wittenburg Access. Deputies and first responders arrived on scene to find the victim, Kenneth Young W/M age 55, of Lenoir with apparent head injuries. Young was transported to Frye Regional Medical Center, and then to Baptist Hospital where he has since succumbed to his injuries sustained from the assault.
Casey Charles Bentley W/M, age 33 of Lenoir, was originally charged on September 2nd, 2024 with Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury. Bentley was placed under a $75,000.00 secured bond with a first court appearance on September 9th, 2024. Bentley has now been charged with Murder. Bentley is currently under a no bond with a first court appearance on September 9th, 2024.
The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation into the assault. Several teenagers were at a gathering in Alexander County, where alleged inappropriate comments were made from Young to Bentley’s teenage daughter. Bentley came to pick up his daughter at the residence Young was not present. Bentley later found Young at Wittenburg Access loading a boat. A verbal altercation occurred between Young and Bentley which lead to Bentley assaulting Young. Bentley was not at the scene when Deputies arrived.
