Additional Mobile Disaster Survivors Assistance Sites Announced for Burke County

Burke County — Additional FEMA mobile Disaster Survivors Assistance (DSA) sites have been announced, making it easier for residents to register with FEMA and access additional resources for disaster relief and recovery.

To reach as many of our community members as possible, DSA sites staffed by FEMA personnel will be held at scheduled locations throughout the county to aide residents registering for assistance. For individuals who have already registered, personnel are available to answer questions regarding the status of previously submitted claims.

Residents are encouraged to visit the DSA location closest to them but will not be turned away from any DSA location. Registration for assistance does require individuals to provide their social security number.

Each location is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

· Saturday, October 26th – Salem Fire Department – 1315 Salem Rd, Morganton

· Sunday, October 27th – West End Fire Department – 3776 Jamestown Rd, Morganton

· Monday, October 28th – Oak Hill Fire Department – 2400 NC 181, Morganton

· Tuesday, October 29th – South Mountain Fire Department – 8204 Gus Peeler Rd, Connelly Springs

· Wednesday, October 30th – Triple Community Fire Department – 505 Mountain View Dr, Morganton

· Thursday, October 31st – Chesterfield Fire Department – 2160 18 US 64 , Morganton

· Friday, November 1st – Longtown Fire Department – 77654 State Rd 1236, Nebo

The above DSA sites are being held in addition to the long-term location for the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at Foothills Higher Education Center. Located at 2128 S. Sterling Street, Morganton, NC 28655, the DRC is open seven (7) days a week from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through December 14th. No appointment is necessary.

The DRC is a one-stop shop where residents can meet face-to-face with FEMA representatives, apply for FEMA assistance, receive referrals to local assistance in their area, apply with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for low-interest disaster loans, and much more.

FEMA financial assistance may include money for basic home repairs, personal property losses, and other uninsured, disaster-related needs, such as childcare, transportation, medical needs, funeral, or dental expenses.

Residents may visit any open DSA or DRC. All DRCs are accessible to people with disabilities or access and functional needs; all are equipped with assistive technology. To find additional center locations, visit fema.gov/drc or text “DRC” and your zip code to 43362.

It is not necessary to go to a center to apply for FEMA assistance. The fastest way to apply is online at DisasterAssistance.gov or via the FEMA app. You may also call 800-621-3362. If you use a relay service, such as video relay, captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.
