Today is election day and more than 1 million North Carolinians are expected to turn out to cast their ballot at the poles.
North Carolina State Board of Elections announced Sunday that more than 4.2 million voters have cast ballots in North Carolina during early in person voting, easily topping the previous early voting record of more than 3.6 million ballots cast in 2020. Combined with absentee voting over 4.4 million or 57% of the 7.8 million registered voters have voted thus far in the 2024 election.
Additionally, voters in the 25 Western North Carolina counties affected by Hurricane Helene continue to outpace the rest of the state in voter turnout. Through Saturday, turnout in those 25 counties was 58.9%, about 2% higher than the statewide turnout.
Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Voters in line at 7:30 p.m. will be able to cast their ballot. Voters will only be allowed to vote at their assigned precinct on Election Day, and you will be required to show your I.D to vote .
