Local law enforcement officers and firefighters responded to the Alexander County Courthouse on Monday morning, Nov. 4, 2024, after the Clerk of Court’s Office received a bomb threat by telephone as court commenced.
The courthouse was evacuated to ensure the safety of all personnel and visitors, according to a Sheriff’s Office release. Streets surrounding the courthouse were blocked off by emergency vehicles, due to the bomb threat. The public was asked to avoid the area.
At about 3:51 p.m. Monday, the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office arrested Matthew Lawton Headden, W/M, age 36 of Taylorsville, for one count of Terrorism, one count of Making A False Bomb Report At A Public Building, and one count of Communicating Threats.
Headden was placed under a No Bond with a first court appearance held on November 4, 2024.
According to court documents, Headden was already facing charges for Possession of Schedule I Controlled Substance, Simple Possession of Schedule VI Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance: Taylorsville Police Department, North Carolina Highway Patrol, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, North Carolina Adult Probation, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office bomb detecting K-9, Alexander County EMS, Taylorsville Fire Department, and Alexander County Emergency Mangagement.
