On Saturday, November 16, 2024, at approximately 10:30 PM, officers from the Morganton Department of Public Safety responded to a report of gunfire in the 100 block of South Sterling Street. Public Safety Officers arrived promptly and observed three individuals leaving the scene. Officers attempted to stop the individuals, but they failed to comply with commands. With additional officers arriving to assist, one individual was detained, and a concealed pistol was recovered from his possession.
Witnesses reported that two males were engaged in a dispute with a female on South Sterling Street when a bystander attempted to intervene. During the confrontation, one of the males reportedly brandished a .44-caliber revolver and fired a shot into the air. As officers arrived, the involved parties began walking away from the area.
The detained individual, identified as Brandon Michael Castelow, 31, of Chesterfield, Virginia, was arrested and charged with the following offenses:
- Resisting a Public Officer
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon
- Discharging a Firearm Within City Limits
Castelow was issued a $5,000 secured bond and is scheduled for a first court appearance on January 6, 2025.
