Man Charged with Two Counts of Resisting a Public Officer

On November 29, 2024, at approximately 10:30 PM, Officers with the Morganton Department of Public Safety responded to Eastview Street in an attempt to serve an outstanding warrant. The officers were attempting to serve an active Order for Arrest on Traver Gooden, 50, of Morganton, at his residence. Upon arrival, they located Gooden and verified his identity using a photograph.

Despite this verification, Gooden denied his identity and attempted to retreat into the residence, disregarding officers’ commands. After multiple de-escalation efforts proved ineffective, officers restrained Gooden and placed him under arrest. Gooden was subsequently transported to the Burke County Magistrate’s Office, where the active Order for Arrest was served, along with two additional charges of resisting a public officer.

Due to his pretrial release status for a separate charge, Gooden was not issued a bond at this time. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 16, 2024.
