41 year old William Lavar Brawley, of Morganton was arrested in January of 2023, when Burke County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped Brawley’s vehicle on Interstate 40. After a positive alert by law enforcement K9. Deputies found of approximately 600 Oxycodone pills, 38 grams Fentanyl, 7 grams of Black Tar Heroin, as well as 2 firearms.
Brawley pled not guilty and a trial began in Burke County Superior Court on May 28th of this year. On May 31st, Brawley did not come to court and cut off his pre-trial monitoring device.
The Jury deliberated and returned with a verdict that same day, finding Brawley guilty of 2 counts of Felony Trafficking by Possession of Fentanyl.
Brawley was later located and taken into custody in Fentress County, Tennessee, on August 28th. He was extradited back to Burke County where he was sentenced on Monday to 18 to 23 years in prisons.
