Catawba man charged with murder following death of one of two victims.

UPDATE: 12/26/2024

Brent Allen Dingess has been charged with Murder following the death of one of the two victims involved
in this incident. That victim has been identified as Candy Annette Stacks. Stacks, 42, died this afternoon
at an area hospital. A second victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Dingess remains in custody under no bond at the Catawba County Detention Facility. Dingess will have a
first appearance in Catawba County District Court on 12/30/24.
Suspect Charged with Two Counts of Attempted Murder.

 

PRESS RELEASE:

Newton, N.C. – On Wednesday, 12/25/24 at approximately 10:30 p.m. deputies with the Catawba County
Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence on Mtn Grove Rd. When deputies
arrived, they discovered an adult man and woman critically injured. Those victims were flown to an area
hospital where they remain in critical condition.

A resident of the Mtn Grove Rd property, Brent Allen Dingess, was taken into custody and has been
charged with two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder. Dingess, 32, is being held with no bond in the
Catawba County Detention Facility. Dingess has a first appearance on 12/27/24 in Catawba County District
Court. Additional charges are pending.
