The Disaster Recovery Center located in Burke County will close, effective Saturday,
January 18th, 2025. Residents who are still seeking assistance will be able to do so online, via phone or at
other Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) that are still open.
Since mid-October, the Disaster Recovery Center has been operating at the Foothills Higher Education
Center, at 2128 S. Sterling Street, in Morganton.
Residents who prefer in-person assistance with their post-Hurricane Helene needs can visit neighboring
DRCs, which are open from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
To find center locations, go to fema.gov/drc or text “DRC” and a ZIP CODE to 43362.
It is not necessary to go to a center to apply for FEMA assistance. The fastest way to apply is online at
https://www.disasterassistance.org, or via the FEMA App. You may also call 1-800-621-3362. If you use a
relay service, such as video relay, captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that
service.
The deadline to apply for FEMA assistance is Thursday, February 6th, 2025.
