Newton- a couple in Catawba County has been charged with felony intentional child abuse resulting in serious physical injury involving a three and four year old. Investigators say they went to the home on Belshire Drive in Conover after being alerted that two children were severely malnourished. They arrested Christopher Welch and his girlfriend, Amy Gonzalez, after learning the father strapped the children in car seats for extended periods of time. Child protective services now has custody of the children.
