The City of Lenoir Martin Luther King Jr. Center will be closed starting on Monday, March 10, 2025, so workers can make some renovations to the building.
The City is making several improvements to the MLK Jr. Center including:
· Interior floor covering replacement
· Exterior door and frame replacement (completed)
· Exterior wooden trim repair (completed) and painting
· Gutter replacement
· Concrete and asphalt repairs for accessibility improvements
· HVAC system replacement
· Tennis court resurfacing
· Outdoor basketball court restriping
Starting next week, workers will remove the old floor in the center and install new flooring. Staff plan to reopen the center in early April, barring any unforeseen problems.
“I want to thank City Council for approving the renovations to the MLK Jr. Center,” Parks & Recreation Director Phil Harper said. “It’s a great facility, and these updates are going to help keep it that way. I look forward to getting this work done and reopening for the community.”
The outdoor amenities including the tennis courts, basketball court, playground, and walking track will remain open.
