Re: Burke County Local Burn Ban Update
EFFECTIVE 11:00 AM, SATURDAY MARCH 15, 2025, THE BURN BAN WILL BE ALLOWED TO EXPIRE
The Burke County Fire Marshal’s Office issued a Local Burn Ban at 5:00 PM, March 2, 2025, due to extreme fire conditions. The purpose of implementing this Burn Ban was to protect life and property. Local officials will continue to monitor atmospheric conditions and fire danger.
Residents can resume legal open burning activities within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling but are encouraged to check air quality forecasts and local regulations before burning. Residents who live in municipalities should check their local regulations before burning as they may differ.
Open Burning
The Burke County Fire Marshal’s Office wants to remind those who conduct open burning that only natural vegetation from the site it originates from can be burned. Burning any material other than natural vegetation is illegal, violators of illegal burning are subject to fines locally and from the North Carolina Division of Air Quality.
