On Tuesday, March 25, around 1:50 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol attempted to stop a 2016 Honda Accord traveling south on US 321 in Catawba County for speeding.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Nazir Murice Lucky from Charlotte, failed to stop, prompting a vehicle pursuit. The Accord continued south on US 321 for several miles before exiting onto Startown Road. While traveling south on Startown Road, the vehicle lost control, veered off the left side of the road, struck a ditch, and crashed into a tree. Lucky attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended.
Lucky, along with two adult passengers and an infant, was taken to a local hospital by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries. None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Lucky faces several charges, including felony eluding law enforcement, felony possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, reckless driving, and misdemeanor child abuse, among others. He is currently being held in the Catawba County Detention Center with a $100,000 bond.
